I was a writer for the Kaleidoscope Newspaper in the early 1970's, covering music and concert events. Unfortunately, most of my issues of the Kaleidoscope were lost over the years. The Kaleidoscope was a Junior Achievement, Nashville music newspaper that was distributed to high schools throughout Nashville, and passed out free to students. In high school,I also worked as a reporter for the popular radio station 1510 WLAC-AM, my first experience in reporting Nashville Area Concerts and other local events. I called in reports from the set of the Hee Haw TV show and other famous places. See my 1970 Kaleidoscope Link: www.tennesseeconcerts.com/kaliedoscope |

ZZ Top at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on October 3, 2008. Absolutely the best ZZ Top I've seen since the Fandango tour. I've seen them about 5 times since then... They were on fire, and the sound was impeccable. I gotta give props to the Ryman also for the employees courtesy and just the whole experience there. It's the best place to see a show in the city, & maybe the world! Jimbo Hagey Junior See more of these ZZ Top pictures by Jimbo Hagey Jr

Leon Russell is about the only performer that I go see every year, only because he always puts on a good show and always has a talented band. He performed hits including Back To The Island, Hummingbird, Out In The Woods, Rolling In My Sweet Babys Arms and others. He did covers of Rolling Stones songs Jumpin Jack Flash & Wild Horses, plus The Beatles I've Just Seen A Face. Leon also performed many songs that he grew up listening to SEE NEW PICTURES OF LEON RUSSELL www.tennesseeconcerts.com/ leonrussell2008

The Best 2008 Song Of The Year Is A Tie! I'm Done AND Where'd Ya Get Those Jeans? by John Latta - Tulsa, Oklahoma I started playing drums when I was five. It was 1956 and the beginning of a magical time: Tulsa was on fire, musically. Musicians of all genres worked in T-Town during the last half of the 20th century. Tulsa is still a hot-bed of talent -- musical and otherwise -- and always will be. I retired from drumming in 1990 (after falling in love, getting married and having a daughter) but not before spending 30+ years of playing live and working in the studio with some of the best musicians, voice talent, songwriters, producers and engineers in the world (see the partial list at http://www.johnlatta.net) About two years ago I started writing songs again. In the last year or so I started cutting demos of some of my tunes. George Clinton (renowned producer and engineer of Booker T & The MGs, Isaac Hayes, Alabama, Charley Pride, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, KISS, Martina McBride, KT Oslin, Hank Williams Jr,

and many others) produced and engineered the demo of "I'm Done!" David Teegarden (see Friends and Links Tab) directed me to Aristar Studios (and Ray Hamilton), where the demos of "Honky-Tonk n'Holler" and "Where'd Ya Get Those Jeans?" were produced. "When The Father's Gone" is being re-written. Look for a new demo of it sometime in April. Springbarrel of Nashville is actively pitching "I'm Done!" / "Where'd Ya Get Those Jeans?" / "Honky-Tonk n'Holler" and "These Good Old Days" through June of 2008. The tabs at my web site www.johnlatta.net will take you to these songs and a few select other places. The list will change periodically, as more songs are finished and added or when demos are recut or re-written. Click the link to hear John's latest song! People Like Us by John Latta (c) 2008 BMI Gary Allen's remarks on John Ladda Congratulations John! I say that because you won the Sonic Bids competition twice in one year and because you are bigger than me. Now you are the 2008 Song of The Year Winner! It's never enough for you is it Latta? You have to love a singing drummer, that writes, produces and wears all the hats. I stay behind the drums for a reason.I would make Ringo look like Sinatra and I don't look good in boos!John competed against Luthianian punk, Siberian metal and Japanese country. The best man won, unless it was because I don't understand the foreign languages. I kid John, because he doesn't know where I am. Pat Adams at Tennessee Concerts will post you on his homepage any minute, so go look at yourself! Sonics Bids is proud as well and will give you a heads up. See if you can trade that for cash. I'm just saying... Check out John's new tracks and get in line to steal his publishing. It's a profit deal you weasels. Happy New Year John and Sadie, from the Music City Beat gang!Have a prosperous 2009, Gary Allen JOHN LADDA WEBSITES: www.johnlatta.net www.sonicbids.com/JohnLatta
