My Very First Concert
by Pat Adams
I was about twelve or thirteen
when I went to my first concert.
I remember talking my father
into taking me. This was toward
the late 60's and I was just a
kid. I loved The Turtles & Lovin
Spoonful at this point and really
wanted to go to this show,
Also appearing at this show
were The Cyrkle, Lou Christie,
B.J. Thomas and the Nashville
Shadows (a local band).
The concert was held in the
old  Fairgrounds Coliseum at
the Tennessee State
Fairgrounds in Nashville.
I remember the concert took
place on the old wrestling rink
without the ropes and the only
lights were the  Coliseum house
lights. Tickets were $2.25 in
advance, and $3.00 at the
door. The two shows began
at 6:00 & 9:00pm.
We went to the early show.
I don't remember the Nashville
Shadows. I do remember The
Cyrkle, a young B.J. Thomas
and Lou Christie (who the girls
seemed to like). The Lovin
Spoonful put on a good show
but it was The Turtles that was
my favorite. This was right at
the time She'd Rather
Be With Me was out. I also
remember them doing Happy
Together, as well as other hits.
I thought it was very cool when
a poster (shown above) from
this concert popped up online a
few years ago. The Coliseum
burned down in 1970.

We're mentioned in
a NBC News Story
October 20, 2012:
NBC News mentioned our
Tennessee Concerts
website in their news story
"Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash
was 35 years ago".
We received ten of thousands
of hits in the days afterward.
The Lynyrd Skynyrd Southern
Tribute pages were put
together by myself and
Jacquelyn Cooper.
Her grandfather owned the
property that the plane crashed
on. At my request, she went up
into the family attic and dug out
newspaper articles & actual
pictures of the crash scene.
Read my interview with her.
We published it all on my
TennesseeConcerts website
and thousands of people go to
these pages every week.
We've even heard from several
of the survivors of the crash.
Check out these pages if you
get a chance at
www.SouthernTribute.com .
Don't forget to sign the
guestbook. This is the 35th
anniversary. You can also check

My Second Concert ever,
Paul Revere & The Raiders
with Special Guests
By Pat Adams
I've already written about my
very first concert, this is about
my second concert.
The year was 1968, it was a
concert at the Nashville
Municipal Auditorium featuring
Paul Revere & The Raiders,
along with opening acts Tommy
Roe, Keith Allison and Exile.
Exile was originally a rock & roll
band. They changed to country
music in later years. I just
remember that they had
matching outfits, not uncommon
for bands in the 1960's. I knew
who Keith Allison was because
he was a regular on the TV
show "Where The Action Is".
I think, in later years he became
a Raider for a while. Tommy
Roe put on a good show. I was
always a fan of his catchy pop
tunes as a kid. I later saw
Tommy Roe and Mark Lindsay
together in an oldies show at
the Tennessee State Fair
around the year 2000.
Just before Paul Revere & The
Raiders were to come on stage,
the crowd was asked to leave
their seats and go out into the
lobby of the auditorium. I later
read in the newspaper, the next
day, that a small bomb was
found in an auditorium restroom.
We were eventually able to
return to our seats and Paul
Revere & The Raiders came out
on stage. There they were in
person, the guys that I had
watched so many times on TV.
I remember Mark Lindsay
coming out taking pictures of
the audience with one of the
old flashcube cameras. They
played the hits. It was great!
I remember at one point in the
show one of the members
sprayed the drummer (I think)
with a fire extinguisher.
And, this show had a real stage
and stage lights, unlike the first
concert that I had gone to.
In my mind, it almost seems that
my first concert (The Turtles &
Lovin Spoonful) was in black
and white, and this one was
in color. A huge difference
considering they were only
about a year or two apart.
The Nashville Municipal
Auditorium remains a Nashville
music venue to this day.

TREMENDOUS show of music

"Little Miss Dynamite") in the mix
of a sold out crowd enjoying the
concert. Brenda Lee's lifetime
record sales are estimated

Back in the 1980's, I got involved
with the local Nashville music
scene after co-hosting the
Creekers Ball with an old friend.
Our goal was to showcase local
Nashville bands in a concert type
setting. We had seven acres of
land which included a large log
cabin in the River Road area of
Nashville and Ashland City.
We booked a full days worth
of local bands and entertainers,
which was the beginning of the
Creekers Ball, a charity event.

George Jones' Farewell
Concert Will Now Be an
All-Star Tribute
What was supposed to be George
Jones' farewell show in Nashville
this November has been turned
into an all-star tribute that will
feature performances from artists
including Garth Brooks, Kid Rock
and Charlie Daniels.

"Everyone has been asking if we
will still do the show," said Nancy
Jones, the late country musician's
wife, in a post on Jones' Jones'
website that names other
musicians set to participate:
Travis Tritt, the Oak Ridge Boys,
Montgomery Gentry, Sam Moore
and Jamey Johnson.
"They all said 'Yes, I am still
going to do it,' so with all the
artists still planning on coming,
we are going to honor George
one final time," Nancy Jones said.

It was fifty years ago on May 18, 1963
that John F. Kennedy made a historic
trip to Nashville. My father took me to
see him on that day as a small kid.
Nashville's Channel 5 had a
cool special on TV from that
day fifty years ago. They also
did a good article from that visit.
