show "Dolly".
Her 1987 prime-time
variety show of the
same name on ABC
was cancelled after
the first season

The Early Years:
Dolly Parton was born
in poverty in Sevier
County in the
mountains of East
Tennessee She was  
one of twelve
children. As a child
she used her ability to
make up songs and
sing them as a way to
both escape and
celebrate her humble
surroundings. By the
age of ten, Dolly was
performing regularly
on the Cas Walker TV
show in Knoxville.
Dolly bought a bus
ticket to Nashville
soon after being the
first member of her
family to graduate
from high school

Porter Wagoner:
In 1967 Dolly joined
singer Porter
Wagoner's
syndicated country
music TV show, and
"Miss Dolly" as she
was called became
very popular with
viewer's. They also
had several hits as a
duo. She left
Wagoner in 1974.

Dollywood:
In 1986 Parton
opened Dollywood, a
Smoky Mountain
theme park in Pigeon
Forge, Tennessee,
near Gatlinburg

2005:
Dolly Parton
continues to perform,
and live in the
Nashville area.
