| Allman Brothers Band Formed 1968 Macon Georgia Original Members: Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Berry Oakley, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe Johanson Biography: The Allman Brothers Band blended strains of Southern Music-blues, R&B, country and Gospel, into aflexible, "New South" and set the style for Lynyrd Skynyrd , the Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, and countless other Southern Rockers Oddly-or eerily, some would say-the bands unusual string of untimely deaths has been repeated in other Southern Rock bands. Through personal tragedy and turmoil, the Allman Brothers Band has endured , and while it lacks the commercial clout of its early '70's heyday, remains well respected and well received by legions of fans. Duane Allman was killed in a 1971 motorcycle accident in Macon. The band played at the funeral. Berry Oakley was killed in a motorcycle crash, three blocks from the site of Duane's accident, a year later. Dickey Betts was fired by the Allman Brother in 2000. |
